Prof. La Luna will discuss "Italian at URI", including signature programs such as International Engineering, International Business, International Computer Science, International Pharmaceutical Sciences, International Fashion, and International Studies and Diplomacy etc. He will also talk about his translation of Carmine Abate's, Il ballo tondo (The Round Dance, Rutgers University Press), a novel that speaks about a small town in Calabria of Albanian origin, winner of the ARGE ALP Readers' International Prize (2000) and other awards.
Prof. La Luna will also present a documentary made in Westerly about 10 years ago with some students from University of Calabria and URI. While filming Prof. LaLuna and his students visited local markets and were welcomed into a few Westerly homes to learn how the holiday culinary traditions of our ancestors, such as Easter, continue as strong as ever in the Westerly Calabrian community.
